Description
The route starts in Acquapartita, a small hamlet on the pass on the road from Serravalle to Apecchio. There's a restaurant there, well-known for its reasonable prices and hearty food. There's plenty of parking under the shade of the trees if you arrive early.
We continue in the opposite direction from Apecchio, on a bumpy dirt road and a slight climb. We soon reach the long ridge of the Serra dei Castagni. Contrary to what the name suggests, no chestnut trees are visible (perhaps in the past), and the predominant vegetation is an old conifer reforestation that is giving way to native broadleaf trees, with a large presence of ferns.
The walk is almost always in the shade and has gentle slopes, until you reach a fork in the road, where you should take the left, downhill. This fork has no deviations and leads to a large meadow, at the end of which you'll find another wide dirt road, which you should take to the left.
You'll first encounter Ca Renzini, which you'll pass on the right through a narrow passage partially covered by low vegetation. Continue straight to reach Casa Miara, a ruin that someone has painted in bright colors. The road continues downhill toward a field, crosses a small ditch, and climbs back up toward La Casaccia. Continue along the road, passing by Casa Val del Lago and, after a while, joining the Serravalle-Acquapartita provincial road.
After about a kilometer of gentle climbing, you return to the starting point, where you can refresh yourself and, if you like, stretch out for a while on the magnificent meadow.
